Jay Chou is Kato in The Green Hornet
Columbia Pictures (via Coming Soon) has announced that Jay Chou is officially Kato in the upcoming Green Hornet film starring Seth Rogen, replacing Stephen Chow, who bowed out first from directing duties (and was replaced by Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’s Michel Gondry) and then out of the film entirely.
Chou is most famous as a Taiwanese pop singer, but he’s no stranger to film, either, having starred in the live-action Initial D, Curse of the Golden Flower and Kung Fu Dunk, among others. Here’s a clip from Kung Fu Dunk showcasing a bit of Chou’s martial arts/stunt work:
He’s no Bruce Lee (there’s more than a little wire fu in the clip), but he’ll be able to handle the stunts just fine. I think it’s a shame a real martial arts expert couldn’t have gotten the role, but… it could be worse, and honestly? No matter who they cast, I’d still see it because of Michael Gondry.
The Green Hornet also stars Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz, and is aiming for a July 9, 2010 release.
