Movie Make-out

Finally, a sports movie I can really get into (unless The Wrestler counts as a sports movie, in which case nevermind that sentence, because that movie’s brilliant). Writer-directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden follow up their break-out indie hit Half Nelson with Sugar, the story of “Sugar” Santos, a (fictional) Domican baseball player who comes to the US with big dreams and comes up a bit short. The trailer is warm and affecting, and the early reviews seem to indicate the the film follows through on that promise. Sugar hits American theaters on April 3, 2009.
