With their best-received film since Fargo under their belt and raking in the little statues, Variety reports that the Coen Brothers are set to adapt, produce, and direct Pulitzer prize-winning author Michael Chabon’s The Yiddish Policemen’s Union. It’s not the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay adaptation comics fans have been clamoring for since its publication, but perhaps interest in the Union will drum up a little momentum for K&C…? I’m crossing my fingers, anyway.

Scott Rudin, who is executive producing Union, still has a script for Kavalier & Clay — which Chabon adapted himself — "in development" (read: gathering dust).

The Coens have two other films on their slate first: Burn After Reading, a spy comedy with George Clooney and Brad Pitt currently in production and due in September, and A Serious Man, a dark comedy "in the vein of Fargo" slated for a 2009 release… despite not even having a public IMDB page yet.
