David Fincher signs onto Black Hole
…Not a remake of the 1979 sci-fi crapfest, the Charles Burns graphic novel about teens whose "lives are drastically altered when they come in contact with a sexually transmitted disease called ‘the teen plague’ or ‘the bug,’" according to The Hollywood Reporter. The "bug" leaves those infected with it physically mutated, often hideously so.
Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman began work on the screenplay a while back, after finishing the screenplay for Robert Zemeckis’s Beowulf, when Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes remake) was previously attached. Aja is currently in production on Mirrors, a horror film for New Regency Pictures. (Paramount Pictures and MTV Films hold the rights to Black Hole.)
Fincher, whose The Curious Case of Benjamin Button just wrapped and is set for a December 19, 2008, release, is also attached to a slew of adaptations, including the non-fiction bestseller The Devil in the White City, the comics Torso
(by Brian Bendis) and The Killer, and the long-trapped-in-development-Hell Rendezvous with Rama.
